Riverbend Trails Project Support
Letters of support for Riverbend Trails project
“The Fats in the Cats Bicycle Club is writing this letter to show our support for the proposed trails at Steve’s Lane. Our group of bicycle enthusiasts are located in Gardiner and throughout the Hudson Valley. We strongly support the trail proposal for this property.
These trails will benefit Gardiner residents and allow for access to beautiful, natural places. Being outdoors, especially now, is very important for exercise, health and wellbeing. The parcel at Steve’s Lane is well situated to allow easy access for Gardiner residents to the Wallkill River and natural areas.
Our group has supported trail development in the Hudson Valley for over 25 years. We have partnered with NYS DEC, Scenic Hudson, Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park to build and maintain trails so the community can enjoy the outdoors. Our members are willing and interested in helping the trail project move forward and we will assist in future volunteer efforts to maintain the trails.
Thank you for supporting the proposed trails at Steve’s Lane”
— Peter Nimmer ( Fats in the Cats Board Member )
I have been asked by the Gardiner Trail Alliance to put my support behind the creation of trails on town owned land.
Since the fall of 2009 we (Renegades Mountain bike club) have constructed over 28 miles of trails on town property in both Wawarsing and in Liberty. The trails are used by thousands each year and bring needed revenue to both towns. Lippman Park in Wawarsing is now in the top 10 places to mountain bike in NYS. It was a lot of planning and construction by a dedicated group and we are proud of our accomplishments. Both town boards were totally behind the idea from the start.
Throughout the country small towns are starting to see the benefit of creating trails on park land to attract tourists and this is a win-win for both the town and the biking and hiking public.
Please consider teaming up with Gardiner Trail Alliance you won’t regret it.
